Macdonald's Smoked Produce win Silver in Germany
Macdonald's SMoked Produce have won Silver in The German International Food Awards for our Cold Smoked Salmon.
Simon is absolutely delighted at this recognition in the quality of his traditional smoking techniques. The salmon is strictly hand sliced by knife and interleaved, taking into account the individual characteristics of each side of salmon. It's the care Simon will share with every customer.
New to the range of products comes "Smoked Pork Scatchings". Up until now, it has been possible to buy pork scratchings in a variety of flavours, but never Smoked.
Simon Macdonald has been working with leading manufacturers to come up with the right balance of smoke and spicing to make a delicious snack that is "so moreish that", as Simon quips, "is virtually impossible to just take one out the packet"
75 gram packs come in at £1.25 per pack. Those fortunate enough to visit the smokehouse shop in Glenuig, have been treated to trial samples of theses delicious snacks and have all gone away delighted with the product. Stocks have been litterally flying off the shelves from the shop... and they say pigs can't fly!!!
FANNING THE FLAMES OF AN AGE OLD ART
Simon Macdonald has designed a range of smokers that use traditional smoking methods to create quality products by means of natural draft allowing the smoke to rise at its own pace.
These smokers use wood chips cut from old whisky or port casks, which smoulder slowly and evenly to give a unique subtle flavour to the foods.
The smokers come in a range of sizes and capacities, suitable for most applications and scales of production. Each smoker is built in situation, taking into account the surrounding topography to obtain the ideal smoke velocity. The size of each unit is dependent on the capacity the client wishes.
By comparison to other manufacturers, Simon's smokers are extremely cost effective and simple to operate. There are no major mechanical parts to go wrong and are capable of both hot and cold smoking. The smokers are suitable for both commercial use and for the enthisiastic home smoker.
To date, smokers have been installed throughout the UK, and in Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal, with strong enquiries comming in from other areas.
